Annual Xmas Toy Distribution Meeting Annual Xmas Toy Distribution Meeting

Club President, Dick McGuire, kept the business portion of this month's meeting to a minimum so we could focus on celebrating the culmination of this year's highly successful Christmas toy production effort. Many visitors were here, as our community turned out in force to see the toys and meet the representatives of the children's welfare organizations who graciously accepted the toys for distribution. New member, Steve Matthews was welcomed.

Dick led a time of silence as we bid farewell to two steadfast club members who passed away since our last meeting...Dick Herrmann and Al Guenther.

The club was reminded that the Fall Craft Fair is coming up on November 22nd from 9am to 3pm. Our club will have a booth to sell our wooden toys and Dick McGuire could still use some help manning the booth.

Dick McGuire presented the slate of 2009 board members for our consideration. We will confirm the new board at our December meeting. The proposed 2009 board is:
President : Wally Duchow
Vice-President : Bill Gruhn
Treasurer : Ray Worthley
Secretary : Neil Frevert
Projects : Lee Smith
Communications : Mike Thorsen
Toy Projects : Jay Chandler

Plans for the club's December Annual Christmas Meeting were summarized by Dick. Plans include a brief business meeting and show and tell followed by a social hour. Please bring deserts/finger food to share and hot drinks will be provided. Spouses are encouraged to attend.

Club member, Henry Browder is looking for someone to recane chairs. If you can, or know of somone, contact Henry at 922-6656.

Dave Kariker presented the Club President with a $750 grant check from the Hot Springs Village Community Foundation (HSVCF). The HSVCF was thanked for their financial support of the Toy Project and members were reminded to support the HSV Community Foundation whenever they can.

Dave Kariker passed out handouts that showed the contents of a new webpage on the club website (http://www.villagewoodworkers.org/gpage2.html). This webpage provides links to the Rockler online website for over 10,000 woodworking related products.

Club members, friends, families, neighbors and organizations were encouraged to use the club weblinks because the club treasury will receive a 5% rebate on any purchases made using these links.

Christmas Toys Donations

Jay Chandler, our Toy Project Coordinator, recognized and thanked his toy team captains, their teams and the doll ladies for the tremendous effort this year. 56 members participated this year to produce 500 toys...400 went directly to the organizations in desperate need of them for kids with little hope of much of a Christmas celebration.

The remaining 100 are being sold to raise funds for next year's effort. Representatives from six Garland and Saline County organizations were on hand to express their thanks and pick up the toys. Their pictures are provided below followed by pictures of the donated toys and for sale toys.

Jay also passed out appreciation gifts to the doll ladies and the toy team captains.
